Completing Our Project
As our project was missing when we returned from the holidays, Karri and i immeadiatley began to focus on our multimedia presentation and perfecting that before they were due. We were a little dissapointed that we were unable to see the final result of our project, however we were happy to have the extra time to do our power point.

Routing the pool and making the hut's
This lesson Karri and I routed the pool. We both had a turn of practicing on a scrap piece of wood which I enjoyed. We then routed the pool and sanded the sides to make it look like a lagoon pool. After this we began making the huts that we are going to use as rooms for the guests, we decided that we are going to but them half in the water and half out to give it the effect that the guests can see the fish underwater. We began by using a piece of timber that was already in the shape of a box or hut and using this as the base. It then used the staple knife and cut out the cardboard to make the roof. I did this by making it a width of 40 mm and a length of 80mm in the middle I used the knife to make a crease jn the middle of it to give it the ability to bend which makes the point of the hut. I then used the hot glue gun to attach the roof to the timber. Then Karri and I glued the paddle pop sticks onto the roof to give it more effect.

May 3 & 5
These two lessons were very productive. Firstly Mr Ward showed the class how the use the router and some students had a go. Karri and I then collected another piece of wood that we were going to use as the shore of the beach resort after cutting the excess wood of we used a sanding device to make the shore line look like a beach which gives it the effect of making the water look deep. We then used PVA glue to attach it to our main board and clamped it together. The next lesson I measured out the walls on pinewood which are going to be stuck around the outside and stop the glue (water) from dripping over the sides. Karri used the sander to even up the outsides of the board. Next lesson we will be routering the swimming pool and then gluing the walls on the outside.

Term 2
This lesson we started off with going through the design brief and Mr Ward showed us the questions we have to answer and how to answer them. Later in the lesson he showed us how to do the base using PVA glue, MDF and pine wood.

Final Feedback On Term
I have enjoyed this terms work which included making and designing a desk lamp and evaluating. I really liked this unit of work because we made something that we will use for our study which is perfect homework use. I thought that it wasn't to hard but the thing I found most difficult was programming the switch. I am really looking foward to next terms unit when we are making the hotels.

11.02.11
Today was my second lesson in the workshop. Alot was done today and that included me finishing bending the aluminium and cutting it to the right size. I also sanded the edges of the aluminum and my wood to make it smoother and have a nicer appearance. At the end of the lesson I also put the dents into my aluminium so it will be easier to put the nails in. Next lesson I will screw on the nails so that the aluminum will be attached to the wood.

Lights- Are they Made of Waves?
According to tpub.com "The exact nature of light is not fully understood, although scientists have been studying the subject for many centuries. Some experiments seem to show that light is composed of tiny particles, and some suggest that it is made up of waves." To begin with the Greeks originally thought that light was shone out of our eyes and Romans believed that light was made up of tiny particles which flew around in straight lines. Many Years later in the 1960's light was then thought to have been made up by waves. It is still being tested today.
10.2.11
Today was my first lesson in the workshop, I firstly began by putting the measurements onto the piece of alluminium so it could be shaped. The shape I chose is a straight base and a wavy top which will be where the lights will be. Next lesson I will finish bending my alluminium and then attach it to my wood.

My first blog
This is my first blog for design futures in 2011. This lesson we have found out that we won't be doing many written work which is good so we can focus more on our practical work. The task I am looking forward to the most is building the hotel, but I am also looking forward to building the light useing LED.
